Is the chilly weather getting you down? Then we have some ideas for you to make the most out of winter. We came up with 10 fun winter activities to do with your best friend when you’re bored. We get it. On freezing days sometimes it’s easier to just stay home. But we promise it’s worth it to get out and make amazing memories. You can even do some of these activities from the comfort of your home.
Even though we spent most of our friendship as long-distance best friends, we’ve gotten to spend a lot of time together in the winter. Now that we live together, we get to plan even more fun outings. Below, you’ll find some of our favorite winter activities to do together.
Let us know in the comments what your favorite winter activities are!
1. Go Ice Skating
One of our favorite winter activities is going ice skating at an outdoor rink. There’s something so fun about bundling up and going skating around the holidays. It’s not too late to go skating though! Most outdoor rinks stay open until March. Grab you best friends and hit the ice.
2. Visit a Light Show
Going to light shows together is something we’ve done since the first year we met. Since then, we’ve been to a few, ranging from drive through, walk through and even one with a carnival at the end. Everything sparkles in the winter.
3. Make Hot Chocolate and Watch a Movie
If outdoor winter activities aren’t your thing, there’s always staying in with a nice cup of hot chocolate. We think its best with whipped cream and marshmallows. Get your hot drink and the curl up on the couch with a good movie. During our last visit, we enjoyed The Devil Wear’s Prada, Confessions of a Shopaholic and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
4. Play in the Snow
If you’re like us and live in a place where it snows, take advantage of it. Make a snowman, have a snowball fight or even go sledding. There are so many things to do when the ground is covered in a blanket of fresh snow. We recommend going out shortly after it falls, before it turns into slush.
5. Light Some Candles and Play a Game
We own a lot of candles. Recently, we got a Rosé scented candle and played Cards Against Humanity with some other friends. The scent of a candle is always welcoming this time of year. Also, any card game is perfect for a night in. We prefer Cards Against Humanity because we never stop laughing.
6. Bake Yummy Treats
Another indoor activity when it’s too brisk is to bake something new. Last visit we made hot chocolate cookies, biscotti and chocolate chip cookies. Have a new recipe you want to try out? Now’s the perfect time. Anything goes!
7. Go for a Walk
If you’re the type of person who loves the winter chill, bundle up and go for a walk. One of the best parts of winter is the air smells clean and fresh. It’s also nice to get some exercise and the best part is you won’t see a lot of people. It gives you more space on trails and sidewalks.
8. Watch a Football Game
January and February are important NFL months. Gather your friends for a Super Bowl party or just have a lowkey evening cheering for your team. No football day is complete without great snacks. On NFL days, we wear our gear and order pizza and wings.
9. Celebrate the New Year
Winter means it’s time for the new year and resolutions. Whether you prefer to have a big blowout or relax and watch the ball drop, make sure you celebrate making it through another year. Also, reflect on what you want to be different in the year to come. We recently created a post on Setting Realistic New Year’s Resolutions.
10. Explore a New Place Together
You don’t have to go far from your house, but you can if you want to/have time. A new year is also the perfect time to go someplace new, whether it’s a city, restaurant, park or store. Explore someplace and discover something fun to do. We recently spent the day wandering around a small beach town in Maryland and had a blast. Beach towns are so exciting in the winter because prices are low and you get the place to yourself for the most part.
I just bought this new candle (spun Pumpkin sugar) AND IT SMELLS SO GOOD. It definitely sets the winter vibes, smells warm, smells like freshly baked goods, and I’m loving it.
I really want to go ice skating too and need to make time for that before it starts warming up even more here in Florida.
Great list!

I’m up for playing a game with my friends or partner, but I don’t think I’ll do it by candle light

Ah, the pair of candle & game sounds absolutely lovely! Last time I got to see mine, we just went for casual lounging in her living room while watching Netflix & chitchat ahah 😅 still a good experience nonetheless, we have few occasions to hang out with each other for real now, so anything is good with me!
A light show sounds amazing!! I don’t know if we have anything of the like here..

Watching a movie together has to be among one of my favourite things to do! The right film choice can really boost your mood and even be a bonding experience with a friend.

Fab suggestions! Ice skating is definitely on of my favourite things to do in the festive period, even if I’m not very good at it, haha. I love curling up and watching a movie on the cold winter days too! Thanks for sharing x

These are fun suggestions! I would love to go ice skating, but I’m not even sure where they have skating rinks here. However, I do love baking, being cozy & watching movies during the winter.

A lot of town centers/downtowns have public rinks! Baking and being warm is so nice when it’s freezing outside.
