Are you enjoying summer as much as we are? One of the best parts of summer is that we tend to be more active than in the winter months. The warm weather and sunshine get us to leave the house and experience something great. We still have almost two months of summer left for 2022, so make the time count. We have 10 fun ideas for what you should do this season. Grab some friends, a significant other or relax solo.
1. Try a New Restaurant
Trying a new restaurant is one of our favorite activities to do. If you’re in a big metropolitan area like us, then there should be plenty of options to try. Going to eat at someplace new is great way to shake things up without having to travel far. Look online for romantic dinner spots or a cute brunch place to toast mimosas with friends.
To really have a unique experience, try a new kind of food altogether. A recent find for us is a Balkan restaurant with outstanding small plates.
2. Take a Vacation
Vacations are a necessity. Let’s face it, we all work hard and need to treat ourselves. Start planning a weekend away if you haven’t yet. And if you swear that you don’t have time, at least plan a day-long staycation where you cut yourself off from outside stress.
If you don’t want to deal with the messy global flight situation, research places within a few hour drive. There are plenty of possibilities. No matter what you choose to do, make sure it’s fun and relaxing!
3. Go Swimming
Swimming is a quintessential summer activity. Whether you choose the beach, pool, or lake, there are swimming options for everyone. For thrill seekers, choose a waterpark, for those who want to relax, lounge on the beach without interruption. If you’re like us, you spent the chillier months wanting to be in the water enjoying the sunshine.
4. Spend Time Outside
If you’re in a location that gets cold in the winter, enjoying being outside isn’t a luxury we have all year. Doing outside activities are fun and usually free. From taking a walk to planning an adventurous hike, it’s easy to find something do for everyone.
Even if you don’t want to be active, sit outside and read or write. Get that dose of Vitamin D and some fresh air.
5. Reorganize Your Belongings
Maybe this isn’t the most fun activity on the list. We prefer summer cleaning over spring cleaning though. Something about this time of year has us analyze what we have and what we can donate. So far, we’ve tackled books and clothes. Next up is shoes and kitchen supplies. Cleaning everything out and reorganizing your belongings is a great way to freshen up a space and declutter.
6. Attend an Outdoor Concert
The best part of outdoor concerts in the summer is that plenty are free. Check out local talent at a town center or popular nightlife area. Or if your favorite musician is coming to town, there are plenty of outdoor venues hosting this time of year. Enjoy the warm nights and sing your heart out under the stars.
7. Focus on Self-Care
If you’ve been stressed, overworked or just don’t focus enough time on yourself, now’s the perfect excuse to start. Self-care means something different to everyone. Find a quiet place to reflect on what self-care means to you and what actions you can take to improve the quality of life. It can be as simple as using a face mask a few times a week to having uninterrupted time to journal. No matter what you choose to do, make it all about you!
8. Learn Something New
We’re all life-long learners. Learning a new skill or hobby is the perfect way to shake things up and get out of your comfort zone. Our recommendations are learning a new language, taking a cooking class or signing up for a fun course at a local community college.
9. Host a Movie Night
Whether you’d prefer a backyard movie under the stars or indoor seating with cozy blankets, grab your favorite people for a fun night. Pick at least two movies, have there be a theme and provide snacks. The snacks can even relate to the movies. For example, if you show movies set in Paris, get some macarons and sparkling wine.
10. Attend a Sporting Event
It’s baseball season and football is almost back! if you’re big sports fans like us, you can’t wait to watch your favorite teams win. Pre-season NFL starts in August and since the all-star break is over, baseball season is heating up for the race to the playoffs. It’s the perfect time to get tickets to a game. Don’t forget your team pride when you go!
These are all great ideas for a summer day! I love spending time outdoors (as the weather cooperates)!

Ooh I love your ideas so much! I really wanted to go on vacation this year but due to unforeseen circumstances I don’t think it’ll be happening now. I still need to do a summer clean out as I’m moving out soon, and I’d love to host a movie night too! Thank you so much for sharing your suggestions.

I’ve been spending a lot of time organizing and getting rid of items that I no longer use. It’s been wonderful to free up so much space and donate my items for others to use. I hope to go on vacation and go swimming too! Thank you for sharing!

Great topic! This summer has been a good one for me. I went on my first vacation in three years, have done a lot of summer activities, and started some projects that I’ve been meaning to get to. So, it’s been nice learning to balance work and play and make the most of the warm weather.

These are all great ideas to do in the summer! I went to my parents’ house in the US for vacation and it was so nice to see them again after almost 3 years. We also spent some time outdoors and we went on a hike around a lake called Fairy Lake so it was really nice!
