The Ultimate Autumn Bucket List

Happy autumn everyone! There are so many activities we love to do this time of year. So, if you’re unsure what to do to make this autumn special, we’ve got you covered. We’re sharing our ultimate list of things to do this autumn to make it the best one yet. What are your favorite autumn activities? Let us know in the comments. Excuse us while we go visit our local pumpkin patch.

1. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Visiting a pumpkin patch is one of our favorite fall activities. It’s fun to wander around, take pictures and pick the perfect pumpkin to carve. Don’t forget to buy smaller pumpkins too, they’re great for decorating your home.

2. Get Lost in a Corn Maze

Corn mazes range from silly to spooky. We did a haunted corn maze on Friday night and had a blast. It took about 30 minutes to get through and we were treated to everything ranging from a haunted carnival to an abandoned green house. You know the staff did a great job setting it up when there were surprises around every twist and turn.

3. Attend a Fall Festival

Attending a fall festival is a great way to celebrate the season. Our favorite local festival has slides, food, games, a petting zoo and much more. We wait all year for a day at Cox Farms, where we always have a blast.

4. Sip at a Local Brewery

Autumn also brings Oktoberfest celebrations to the forefront. Find a local brewery and see what beers they have on tap. It’s a great way to spend a relaxing day with friends. Don’t forget a soft pretzel to go with it.

5. Pick Apples

If you’re like us, then you love having fresh fruit in the house. Apple picking is a fun activity for any age. After, you can eat the apples right away or use them for baking yummy treats.

6. Go on a Ghost Tour

Depending on your location, there might be a great ghost tour nearby. Even if you don’t believe in ghosts, these tours are creative ways to learn about the history of a location. But do your research first. Some ghost tours are great, while others are too campy.

7. Watch a Halloween Movie

Our two favorite Halloween movies are Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown! You can bet we’re watching them very soon. Get your favorite Halloween movie ready, grab the snacks and enjoy. Also, stay tuned for our ultimate list of Halloween movies and TV show episodes coming in October.

8. Dress Up for Halloween

It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you’re doing on Halloween night, it’s so much fun to dress up. Christy is going Steampunk this year and Ben’s costume is TBD. We promise to keep you updated on our Halloween costumes and plans. We encourage all of our readers to share their costume ideas with us.

9. Take a Picture with the Fall Foliage

Mid to late October is peak fall foliage for us. We love to take pictures with bright red and orange leaves that seemingly appear overnight.

10. Go Hiking

The weather is at a perfect comfortable temperature, making it ideal to be outside. Go for hike with some beautiful scenery. Bonus points if it’s also a great place to see the fall foliage. We’ll be hitting up a hiking spot with amazing waterfalls soon.

11. Attend a Halloween Haunt

Aren’t you scared? Halloween haunt events on a dark chilly night are the perfect way to spend October. We love going through haunted houses with different themes, especially when there’s a spooky library. A whole night dedicated to fright is perfect for the two of us.

12. Carve a Pumpkin

Now that you visited a pumpkin patch and found the right one, it’s time to decide what to carve. You can go with a classic Jack, or something more technically difficult. Whatever you do, make it a fun day.

13. Decorate Your Home

14. Take a Hayride

The haunted hayride we did Friday night, as well as the corn maze, was an amazing experience. Going through the dark woods while people jump out turned into a fun experience. But if you’re more fall festival than scary event, fun hayrides are also perfect for the season. Just remember to wear comfortable clothes.

15. Buy a New Cozy Sweater

With the weather cooling down, it’s the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe. Cozy sweaters go with everything from pants to skirts. You can even wear one over a dress. Just buy something you love and make sure it’ll keep you warm all fall and winter.

16. Host Friendsgiving

Before Thanksgiving, host a potluck event with your closest friends. If everyone makes one our two dishes, everyone attending will feel full and it won’t take too much time/effort.

17. Try a Fall Themed Cocktail or Mocktail

Apple and cranberry cocktails are personal favorites this time of year. To get into the season even more, use an autumn themed cocktail glass. If you don’t know where to start, it’s easy to Google fall cocktail recipes for some fun inspiration.

18. Cook Something Seasonal

Pot roast is a personal favorite this time of year, as well as chicken cooked with apples. Autumn feels like the best time to get out the slow cooker too and make yummy dinners, such a chili or hearty stew.

19. Read a New Mystery of Thriller

We can’t wait to share our list of books we want to read this fall. Stay tuned. Just know that for us, it’s the time of year to read mysteries and thrillers. We’re ready for some dark reads to keep us guessing.

20. Light an Autumn Scented Candle

Nothing makes your home ambience more fall-like than getting a scented candle for the season and lighting it. We love to have a candle lit while we’re watching TV at night, especially since it’s getting darker earlier.

21. Tell Ghost Stories

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a personal favorite of our, guaranteed to spook your most sensitive friends. Tell scary tales by a bonfire or at home with only candlelight.

22. Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without waking up in the morning, making a cup of coffee and turning on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. It’s a yearly tradition that makes the holiday even more special.

23. Get Started on Holiday Shopping

Instead of feeling rushed in December, starting holiday shopping early is a time saver. We start by making a list with the names of everyone we need to shop for and going from there. Having at least an idea of what to get people cuts down on the stress.

24. Buy Fresh Produce at the Farmer’s Market

Buying in season for cooking is always a great idea. We already told you we like getting apples, but we also enjoy buying other in season produce. Stock up your kitchen with some great fresh finds and support local farmers.

25. Host a Game Night

Game nights for us include Charcuterie and Cards Against Humanity. For a game night though, anything goes. All you need are some people, an engaging game and snacks. Bonus points if the snacks are fall themed.

26. Experience an Escape Room

27. Bake Halloween Themed Treats

Cupcakes and cookies always go with this time of year. Think peanut butter cookies with spider’s drawn on in frosting or chocolate cupcakes decorated to look like Jack Skellington.

28. Go for a Scenic Drive

If you’re like us and live in an urban area, get away for a day and go for a drive in the countryside. Include a fall playlist to make the mood right.

29. Warm Up by a Bonfire

Whether you make a bonfire or attend an event with one, they’re a great way to warm up on a chilly night. Don’t forget the s’mores.

30. Attend an NFL Game

We had the opportunity to see our New England Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Going to our first NFL game was a great experience. We got to cheer for our team and celebrate a hard-fought victory.

31. Watch the World Series

Even if your favorite MLB team doesn’t make it to the World Series, it’s always fun to watch baseball season come to an end in October. One day we’d love to attend a World Series game!

32. Snuggle Under a Warm Blanket

This weekend we bought a new throw blanket for the living room, which is orange and has black and white pumpkins on it. It’s perfect to snuggle under and watch a movie.

33. Plan a Weekend Getaway

Going away, even if it’s just for the night, is a fun way to explore some place close by and relax away from home. We’ll keep you posted on what we decide to do for our fall getaway.

34. Run a 5K

Ben’s the runner of the house, so running a race in the fall is second nature for him. To prepare for Boston in the spring, Ben is looking for a half-marathon. However, if you’re not a big runner or don’t want too long of a distance, try out a 5K and see how it goes.

35. Enjoy the Mild Weather

September and October are the best months to be outside. Especially on a sunny day. We can’t wait to enjoy some outdoor activities and read outside before the November chill.

36. Attend a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre

So, this is going on our bucket list. We haven’t done one yet, but a murder mystery dinner theatre is the perfect fall date night. Have some yummy food while trying to figure out the killer. We think the two of us could solve the mystery together.

37. Toss the Football with Some Friends

We spent yesterday watching football and throwing the football around. Move over, because we’re getting drafted come 2023. Not really…but we did run a few good plays. Christy was Quarterback and Ben played Wide Receiver/Running Back.

38. Bake Your Favorite Pie

Thanksgiving = Christy’s Cherry Pie. Pick your favorite pie and make it for friends, family, or just yourself because you deserve a special treat.

39. Wear Autumn Colors

When switching over to the fall/winter wardrobe, we definitely notice the darker color palette. Some of our favorite colors to wear this time of year include burgundy, cranberry, navy and forest green.

40. Make a Giant Leaf Pile to Jump In

Who says raking the leaves has to be boring? Make a giant pile to jump into, just like when you were a child.

41. Spend the Day on a Boat

Spending the day on a lake or river when the leaves change is beautiful. It’s a way to shut off your brain and relax around nature. We even recommend bring a book or using the location to inspire creative writing.

42. Go Cider Tasting

Whether it’s regular cider or hard cider, it’s the perfect time to find an orchard with this opportunity.

43. Play with a Ouija Board

Don’t get too scared and be careful. You never know what, or who, you will uncover.

44. Host a Scary Movie Marathon

Horror movies are a must in October. Host a movie marathon with some new and old movies mixed in. Don’t forget the kettle corn and apple cider.

45. Visit a Summer Tourist Spot

You know how beach towns are so crowded and expensive in the summer? Not in the fall. Who says it has to be warm to walk along the beach?

46. Buy Fall Scented Self-Care Products

Go to your favorite beauty store or a place like Bath and Body Works. Stock on bath bombs, lotion bars, soaps and moisturizers. You won’t regret it.

47. Eat Apple Cider Donuts

Our favorite fall treat that we don’t bake ourselves. We go to a local farm that makes the best apple cider donut, at least a few times during the season.

48. Attend a Petober Event

Humans aren’t the only ones to love fall events. Bring your pet to a petober event, where they can go trick or treating and make some friends.

49. Buy Your Favorite Candy

Our home is about to get overrun with our favorite Halloween candy. Kit Kats are the favorite, but we love anything chocolatey.

50. Climb a Tree

Be a kid again when the leaves change and climb a tree. Enjoy the view and look at all the pretty leaves.
