It’s finally October, one of the most fun months of the year. If you’re like us, then you already started watching your favorite Halloween movies and TV show specials. We’re so excited to share with everyone our ultimate Halloween watch list. Grab some apple cider, a cozy throw blanket and a bag of kettle corn, it’s time for spooky watching season.
Movies
1. Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is easily our favorite Halloween movie. It’s got everything: witches, fright, Salem, Massachusetts. Because we love this movie so much, we’re not planning on watching the sequel. We just know we’ll be disappointed.
2. Halloweentown
Halloweentown is a feel-good holiday classic that we have to watch every year. Who wouldn’t want to visit Halloweentown with the Cromwell witches?
3. Halloweentown II
The second trip to Halloweentown is almost as enjoyable as the first, but we recommend stopping there. We’re not fans of the last two movies in the series.
4. The Haunted Mansion
The Haunted Mansion is perfect for anyone who has ever thought about staying someplace haunted before. Eddie Murphy’s character is too focused on his real estate business, leading his family to a creepy mansion in the bayou overnight. Nothing will be the same again.
5. Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire
The Hansen siblings want to go out one night, but they need to find their mom a date first. Back then, they used the newspaper to find available singles. Too bad the one they picked happens to be a vampire…and not the friendly kind.
6. Twitches
Twin sisters Alex and Cameron meet on their 21st birthday, which happens to be Halloween. To save their homeland of Coventry, the two have to embrace that their witches and face the danger threatening everyone in their lives.
7. Twitches II
Alex and Cameron are back and more determined than ever to learn about their family past. Too bad the danger and darkness aren’t over yet.
8. Trick ‘R Treat
Trick ‘R Treat is a horror movie that follows a few different stories, as dark secrets in a small town come to life.
9. The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas at 29 years old is still one of the most popular movies to watch this time of year. Jack Skellington and Sally are still at every Halloween store.
10. It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
A Halloween classic! We love watching Charlie Brown and the gang prepare for trick or treating, while Linus waits for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin.
11. Goosebumps
Based on the R.L. Stein books, the 2015 movie adaptation has Jack Black play the author and all his stories are capable of coming to life.
12. Goosebumps 2
The second movie focuses on Stein’s character Slappy, who has a dark plan for this Halloween. Will his creator be able to stop him again?
13. There’s Someone Inside Your House
Based on a Stephanie Perkins novel, this movie follows a group of friends as most of their fellow students get murdered right around Halloween. If you’re looking for autumn vibes, part of the story takes place in a corn maze.
14. Hotel Transylvania
While a bit silly at times, Hotel Transylvania is a fun movie for the whole family. Experience Bran castle in all its glory in Romania, as a human discovers a hotel for monsters.
15. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
We started off our Halloween Watchathon with the adaptation of one of our favorite books. This horror movie set in 1969 take the short stories from the book and turns it into a continuous tale about a group of friends, who make the mistake of visiting an abandoned house on Halloween night.
TV Shows
1. Friends
Even though Friends has 10 seasons, there was only one Halloween episode. It’s a lot of fun watching the group at Monica and Chandler’s Halloween party. Get ready for some weird costumes and crazy antics.
2. Single Parents (seasons 1-2)
Single Parents, in our opinion, was a severely underrated TV show, that only lasted for two seasons. Both have hilarious Halloween episodes featuring our favorite kids and parents.
3. Gossip Girl
Like Friends, Gossip Girl only had one Halloween episode. In season 3, Chuck Bass wants to open up a club in the Empire Hotel. The star-studded event is prohibition themed, and boy is there drama.
4. The Middle (seasons 2-9)
The Middle had a Halloween episode in every season except it’s first. Episodes range from solving a murder to Brick’s trick or treating days. We’ve already watched every Halloween episode this year and we can’t recommend them enough.
5. The Suite Life of Zack and Cody
While technically not set on Halloween night, this episode is still full of fright. Zack, Cody, Maddie and London spend the night in suite 613, where a ghost has haunted the hotel for decades.
6. One Tree Hill
One Tree Hill gave us two Halloween episodes, one in season 3 and the other in season 8. In season 3 the gang gathers at TRIC to celebrate the holiday together in costume. In season 8, most of the characters are going through a transition period, making Halloween the right time to relax and have fun.
7. That’s So Raven
Raven and Chelsea want to get invited to the Halloween party of the year. Too bad Alana hates them both and invited everyone else. Determined to be on the guest list, Raven and Chelsea perform a spell to create the best costumes ever.
8. SpongeBob
SpongeBob wants all of his friends to think he’s scary at the annual Krusty Krab Halloween party. Too bad he gets exactly what he wished for.
9. Fairly Odd Parents
Real and scary, what Timmy Turner wished for his Halloween to be. Dimsdale turns into a real horror show when some of his classmates want to destroy earth.
10. Community
Have you ever imagined the Zombie Apocalypse set to ABBA’s greatest hits? Because that’s what you get with Community’s season two Halloween episode. We’ll leave it at that.
11. Melissa & Joey
We love this episode because Melissa Joan Hart gets to reprise her role as Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It’s a fun mashup that brings back some familiar characters.
12. Halloween Baking Championship
On every September through October, some of the most talented bakers compete to create the most delicious (and horrifying) treats.
13. Are You Afraid of the Dark?
It’s all part of the show. Despite being a kid’s show, the revival of Are You Afraid of the Dark? from 2019 kept us on the edge of our seats. The haunted carnival setting makes it that much better.
14. Are You Afraid of the Dark? Ghost Island
We haven’t finished the latest season yet, but we do enjoy the creepy hotel on an isolated island setting. We’re curious to see where the story goes for The Midnight Society.
15. The Loud House
Lincoln and Clyde just want to go trick or treating in the fanciest neighborhood in Royal Woods. But their decision costs everyone else their night of fun. But after a change of heart, Lincoln and Clyde are determined to save Halloween.
16. How I Met Your Mother
Remember the slutty pumpkin? Ted Mosby sure does. He spends every year waiting on the rooftop for his perfect girl to return. It only takes several seasons for his patience to pay off…or does it?
This is an amazing list! We love your picks, especially Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown.
