The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Chapter 14

I woke up to two officers taking the straight jacket off of me. One was Noelle’s date from last night and the other his direct supervisor.

“You’re free to go buddy. The DNA from the mugger matches what we had on file for the culprit.”

“Okay, well what do you plan on doing about my soiled pants?” I said.

“There’s nothing more I can do. I called Noelle and told her and we shared a nice laugh. Now it’s your problem.”

What a useless cop. And now Noelle knew about my accident. I was never going to be able to live this down. Maybe I should just ignore her for the rest of the summer. After all, I came here for my career, not my love life.

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: New Year, Same Old Johan

This Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: New Year, Same Old Johan takes place two weeks after The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: A Very Merry Johan.

Who doesn’t love a man in a tuxedo? I couldn’t believe that someone my age would be hosting a black-tie New Year’s Eve party with champagne.

I made sure to triple check that I had the right invitation this time. I didn’t want a repeat of Halloween night. Melody’s invitation came the day after the holiday concert debacle. It gave me an opportunity to finally win her over and tell the truth about the song. After what Craig pulled, Johan Sebastian Craig disbanded after only one performance.

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: A Very Merry Johan

“Tis the season to be Johan,” I sang loudly while walking into the local mall. It felt like Christmas was finally here. The candle store displayed scents of pine and fresh baked cookies, a big tree lit with multi-colored lights stood proudly and a red and gold chair took over the center of the mall. One lucky person would get to play Santa this holiday season and it had to be me. After my disaster of a Thanksgiving play, this was coming from The Boston Globe, not me, I had to do something to improve my reputation. Hence my first job ever.

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Chapter 13

“Jared,” I yelled as soon as I opened the door to our dorm room. Jared leaned against his red husband pillow and watched a TV show on his iPad. “We have a problem.”

“What did you do now?” He didn’t even look away from his screen.

“I may have exaggerated about how my date went last night. Apparently, Noelle had a different story.”

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: A Thankless Thanksgiving

This chapter takes place less than a month after The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Halloween Gone Wrong.

This year, my aunt invited me to direct the annual Thanksgiving Day play. Every year, we spent Thanksgiving with my aunt in Plymouth, Massachusetts. As the Director of the Plymouth Historical Society, my aunt is busiest around Thanksgiving. She and my mom thought taking on this position would provide me with something for my resume and would instill a sense of responsibility.

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Halloween Gone Wrong

This chapter takes place eight months before the events of The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Chapter 1. It’s a fun bonus chapter set during Johan’s junior year Halloween.

T-minus five days until Halloween and Melody’s annual Halloween party. This year, Mike, Mohammed and I scored invitations for the first time ever. Melody’s parties were legendary in our small town, since there wasn’t much to do, even on a major night like Halloween.

Melody lived in a Victorian-style mansion near the school, so I’ve been told. I‘d never visited her house before. But when her fancy black invitation with silver script came in the mail, I couldn’t help but cheer. Her parents were old school and thought formal invitations made the event more exclusive, even if the two of them would be away in Vermont for Halloween weekend.

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Chapter 12

I was feeling really confident about the date tonight. I made Jared handle the reservations at the fanciest French restaurant in Manhattan…that my mom could afford. I traded in my trusty skinny jeans for the suit Arthur bought me a few months ago. Instead of a stupid taxicab, I tried to hire a limo, but you had to be 18 to make a reservation. Oh well, my mom would have been pissed anyway.

When I told Jared what happened the night before, he asked what idiot would confuse his female date with long dark hair for a waiter with a buzzed head? With Noelle in heels, she and the waiter were almost the same height, but that only made Jared laugh more.

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Chapter 11

After a long, hot shower, I took in my reflection in the mirror. The nose pimples faded to nothing more than slight redness and my light skin began to tan evenly over my body, giving me a healthy glow. I brushed back my short dark hair, placing the blue gel over the surface.

“What do you think, Jared?” I stepped out of the bathroom in only a towel. This was my big night. I had to impress Noelle with the perfect outfit.

“Like a human?”

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Chapter 10

I woke up the next morning with a terrible headache. Great, I thought. I probably blacked out and ended up embarrassing myself in front of that girl along with everyone else at the party. I then noticed that I was completely naked, and I was in someone else’s room.

The Misadventures of Johan O’Malley: Chapter 9

After my mom unpacked my stuff and set up my room for me it was time for her to leave. I appreciated her wanting to help. But now I felt she was overstaying her welcome. I was planning on getting a girlfriend down here and I felt she was just going to make me look less cool.
