Conversations Every Couple Should Have Before Marriage

Do you love watching romantic comedies where the couple always lives happily ever after? We do too! But that’s not reality. In fact, we read through different sources from the past decade. All of the sources estimate that the divorce rate hovers between 40 and 50% in the United States.

Common cited reasons for divorce include money disagreements, infidelity or marrying too young. Another cause is getting married without being together long enough to really get to know each other. For example, the honeymoon phase in a relationship can last over a year, especially for couples who don’t see each other every day.

10 Signs They Like You as More Than a Friend

From your first crush all the way to adulthood, it can be hard to tell whether the person you’re thinking about likes you back. Asking directly might cause problems or seem intimating, making it easier to analyze their signals before letting the person know how you feel.

While we can’t guarantee the object of your affection is in love with you, these signs make it pretty obvious that your feelings are reciprocated. Remember to try to stay objective. You can even ask a friend whether you think any of these signs describe the person in question.

Life Lessons Learned from Our Chren Weekend

Last weekend the two of us got to have one of our amazing friendship weekends. For us, a friendship weekend means we spend almost all of our time together going on adventures. We had the chance to do a Boston harbor cruise, hit up a rooftop bar, swim for the first time in 2022, walk along the beach and eat lots of tasty food. The picture above is from the harbor cruise.

While we spend most of our time together laughing and joking around, we tend to have some serious discussions as well. Even the first day we ever spent together we had a long and deep conversation about how we view the world.

So, after spending all weekend together, here are the lessons that can be taken from our conversations with each other and with our other friends. We hope our readers enjoy learning from our reflections.

Don’t Be Someone’s Spare Tire

Being someone’s spare tire is exactly what it sounds like. Why do you have a spare tire in the back of your car? You don’t always need it, but it’s always there.

The problem with being a spare tire in dating: it’s hard to know when you are one. After pointing out to someone that he was in fact a spare tire, a light bulb went off in his head. After hearing the term out loud, he recounted how his classmate tended to push and pull him, depending on her emotional needs at the time. But he let her treat him that way because he thought if he could be that guy for her, eventually she would want to be with him.

Think You’re Dating a Narcissist? Here’s How to Tell

When you’re in a relationship, it’s important to know whether or not the person you’re with sees a future with you or uses you to fulfill their desire to be wanted.

We have all met narcissists. Maybe you’re spending time with a friend and they won’t let you say anything without them having to add a personal accomplishment to the discussion. Maybe you went on a date and by the end of it, the person couldn’t tell you a single fact about yourself, when you can write a biography on their life story. Or maybe you watched a friend obsess over a significant other, only to see the significant other bask in praise, without giving compliments in return.
